What are RFID and PCMCIA?
Tuesday, April 1st, 2008Have you ever used an access card to get into a building or your car or passed through an automated toll collection system on a highway, then you have used RFID Readers. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) is an automatic identification method, relying on storing and remotely retrieving data by means of devices called RFID tags or transponders. An RFID tag is an object that can be applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. RFID Readers are used now in passports, product tracking, libraries, school and universities, lap scoring and even Inventory systems. RFID Readers are now incorporated with Touch Screen devices for trouble-free use.
On the other PCMCIA (Personal Computer Memory Card International Association) card is the form factor of a peripheral interface designed for laptop computers. It was originally for memory expansion but is expanded several times and is now suitable for many types of devices. These kinds of cards can only be read by PCMCIA Reader. PCMCIA Reader is the perfect reader for laptops and is ideal for the corporate business traveler who needs to access sensitive data. When inserted in a PCMCIA slot, the reader is totally discreet. Both RFID and PCMCIA are used to store large amount of data.
